Fraser Valley
Fraser Valley Real Estate Region
Located east of Vancouver, the Fraser Valley region is a broad, fertile floodplain on the Lower Fraser River. The Valley lies between the Coast Mountains and the Cascade Mountains north of the US border and is home to almost a third of the provincial population.
Fraser Valley Agriculture
Fertile soils and the moderate climate of the Fraser Valley had made it one of the most productive agricultural land in the world. The rich alluvial soil is perfectly suited for farming and the region is responsible for almost half of the provincial agricultural output.
Farming in the Fraser Valley farming is centered around berry farms (blueberry farms, raspberry farms, cranberry farms and strawberry farms), dairy farms, poultry farms, ornamental nurseries and greenhouses. Fraser Valley farms account for around 85% of total raspberry production of Canada and the community of Abbotsford is known as the Raspberry Capital of Canada.
Scarcity of arable land in BC, a population explosion in the Fraser Valley and increasing industrial and commercial development in the region have led to massive increases in the value of agricultural land in the area. Agricultural land has seen an increase of 100% in land values from 2003 to 2007.
